Wireless Monitoring System (Wi-Mon)

Wi-Mon is my final year undergraduate project which i did for the Negombo General Hospital Dengue Unit.

The emerging wireless network technologies and integrated electronic circuits have led for several advancements in Wireless Body Area Networks (WBAN) recently. The WBAN concept provides plentiful new innovative ideas to enhance the health care systems. It allows the integration of intelligent and miniaturized sensor nodes in or on a human body to monitor the human body functions following IEEE 802.15.4J and IEEE 802.15.6 standards. The paper presents design and implementation of a wireless monitoring system (Wi-Mon) for patients who need continuous monitoring. This patient monitoring system consists of a sensor network and a remote monitoring application. It measures the vital information of a patient such as temperature, pulse rate, oxygen saturation, ECG (electrocardiogram) and blood pressure. Moreover, the system also provides management of information collected from the sensor nodes and decisive alerts of patients in severe condition. The accuracy of measurements with Wi-Mon was simultaneously validated with an existing system in the Clinical Management and Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) Unit of Negombo Base Hospital.
